How to collect the samples?
PBFD
Blood on paper: Prick the vein located under the wing using a sterile needle. Let the blood to pour onto the circles of the form and let it dry. Bleeding will stop inmediately. If you are collecting samples of more than one bird, please sterilize the needle after using it or use a different needle each time. Another way to collect blood from your bird is clipping the toenail. Clean the area with alcohol and let it dry prior to collection. Clip the nail and pour the blood onto the form. Ferric subsulfate or silver nitrate can be used to stop bleeding.
PSITTACOSIS
Cloacal swab: It can be bought in a chemist or replaced by clean ear cleaning buds. Introduce it in the cloaca and rub it. Let it dry 30 minutes. Keep the swab in a plastic bag or the tube. Tubes containing gel are not suitable for the test.
